Fairplay is a grocery store by my house, on Cermak and Western. Honestly, most people really dread going to Fairplay on the first of the month because it gets very crowded and they are open 23 hours of the day; but the other 29 days it’s fine. It’s a large basic less-expensive neighborhood grocery store. There is one little twist though, in the deli they sell fried chicken and sandwiches, made them right there. Now I know sandwiches aren’t elaborate or anything, but these are the best. I swear. They take the fresh made Italian bread, baked in the bakery part, and they give you your choice of meat, sliced right there in the deli, as well as choices of cheese. This may sound like an ordinary sandwich; tomato, lettuce, pickles, whatever your little hearts desire. However, there is something special about Fairplay sandwiches. For one, they are huge. One simply cannot eat it alone. It’s the size of a loaf of bread so it is definitely a sandwich for a type of outing, or in my case dinner for two or three. They cost around fifteen dollars, and it is completely worth it. I think it’s the mayonnaise, oils and seasoning they put on the bread. I honestly can’t say exactly what they put on the sandwich or how they make it, but who cares? It’s delicious. Especially with a soda and some chips, it really completes the sandwich.

I'm yo shoe.
Heyyyy.
Down here! I know this is awkward. But…Yeah, your shoe is talking. Well if you paid any attention to me you’d know that I talk. Gosh. Is this a problem? No I’ll tell you a problem. You are always stomping around! That’s a problem. Do you have some problems you want to get out? Oh, I’m sure it’s not about me. But you know you’re taking it out on me. Like you got a problem with me or something. Is it too much to not always walk so mad and run around all the time? Cause I get tired too ya’ know. It’s not easy being a shoe. Yeah I have feelings! I’m well aware that I’m a shoe…I have to sacrifice and give up my down time on your calls… I don’t know if you noticed but you’re not one for taking breaks. Especially from me! Would it kill you to use the black boots just sitting in the closet all day long that you NEVER wear? ‘Cause I need a break.
That brings me to my next point. Would it kill you to get a pedicure? I know times are rough… but so are your feet. There is only so much I can take girl. I mean you don’t even have to get a pedicure. Just soak them in some highly medicated hot water. Well if I’m not comfortable than why do you wear me almost every day!? Yeah, I went there.
I’m pretty? Well, that’s sweet. OH stop with yourrrrr flatterrryyyyyyy!

Winter poem
I KNOW its lame...
Winter poem
The snow has two different shades
There’s pure white,
But believe me that fades,
And then there’s the city grey.
Downtown the shoppers flock
A constant flow
Taking up the whole block
No ones in a hurry, just taking in the snow.
The wind beats my face
Sharp and bold
Hold onto something and brace
Yourself for the cold
The lights complete the downtown streets
And walking with someone you love makes the night a treat
A nice warm drink makes this night complete.
The Chicago Winter may be harsh,
But the ones you love make it all worth while.

Freakin' Globalization...
Kids in Africa are wearing Michael Jordan jerseys. People around the world identify with Nike, Pumas, the NBA, Lil’ Wayne, Hannah Montana, and of course the most famous girl in the world, Barbie. Is this wrong? Slowly is every culture diminishing? How different can cultures be when kids in China look shockingly similar to little Timmy down the block? The world’s colors are slowly mixing and becoming one ugly color…
Different cultures are so deep and interesting yet they continue to fade. Is it possible for the world to function if everyone looks, talks, listens and does everything exactly the same as every other person across the globe? People and groups usually have a need to accuse a party for something anything really. Now who will these people accuse if the person you’re blaming is a replica of you? Does that mean… this is a good thing?
What if we lived in a world where no one accused anyone else of anything? If we are all the same due to globalization… can we live in peace?
Nope, I doubt it. No one’s perfect. No single group is the ideal group of people. Everyone has issues. So now all that is continuing to happen, in my eyes, is chaos. I’m not saying that everyone has to be stuck in their thick cultural past, but I do think every group should have their own modern culture.
WHO HAS THE ANSWERS TO ALL THESE QUESTIONS?
Let’s not be one big color of mush.

Sportsssssssssss!
The sport I connect most with is baseball. Baseball not only holds a place in my life but it will always hold a place in my heart as well.
I’ve grown up around baseball. My dad played baseball all his life, so naturally I was exposed to baseball at a very young age.
My dad played baseball in the parking lot at St. Casmir, the fields at Kelly High School, and in Joliet for the Joliet Jackhammers. Then tragedy killed his dreams of going pro when he tore his Achilles. It was too hard to recover so quickly, so he had to hang up his cleats and get a steady job to support what would be his future family. My dad still had that quench to play ball and he then signed up to play with the Benito Juarez Mexican Baseball league. Sundays equals park, that’s just how it is in my mind. There’s never any question about it. Nothing stops my dad from playing. He played the day of his wedding, the day of my older brothers’ baptism, the day after I was born, and the day my older brother moved away. However, he was there nonetheless for all those special events in our lives. He shaved in the car on the day of his wedding, when he showed up late for the ceremony my mother asked him why at the alter and his response was “Babe, Championship game.” Eventually everyone got used to this. My parents always joke that this was the source of their split, and we always joke that the divorce rate in the league is 85%. Pitrowski Park is my second home. I grew up there and I’ll spend most summer Sundays there until my Dad decides to quit. Which will be never, which means I can’t escape baseball. Even if I tried.

Thankful for a Classmate
Thankful for Sam :]
It’s always good to look forward to something in every class. Those few people who you know you can count on to make you smile in class or someone to talk to for the class. It’s the best to know that there’s someone looking forward to see you as well.
I met Samantha Kania Freshman year at a quince. Over the four years here at Whitney we exchanged smiles and waves in the hall way, even a husband, but never even a class. Therefore, I’m really thankful for sixth period philosophy. She sat in front of me and the bond began. Whether it was over our beloved Vinny and Pauly D, wondering why we took AP Human, and many other random things. We never really go a class period without laughing and cracking jokes. Whenever we have group work we choose to work together and I always learn something from her, school and non-school related. Sam is possibly one of the sweetest girls at Whitney Young. She always listens, even if the problems seem small and insignificant, yet she always shows concern. One day I showed up in class in a bad mood and started to cry and she showed so much concern. I didn’t want to talk about it but it was great to know that she would be there and listen to me if I had wanted to talk about it.
So I’m pretty thankful for Sam, who would be excited as I am for the new Jersey Shore season? :D
Vanessa Rangel is my home girl. She's tough, she's from de efe. This girl is hilarious. We get along really good, and i hope stays this funny for a long time.
She's sweet too. She decent. Hahahaa. Love you vanessa :]

letter to mccarthy...
Dear Cormac McCarthy,
You’re one interesting man. Your writing is simple yet very complex, dark, deep, and so many other things, which I will admit can get very confusing at times. I had to read The Road for both my Philosophy class this year and my Creative Writing class last year. Obviously, my teacher thinks you have something to contribute to our class. Which is true, you did contribute to both classes.
For Creative Writing our teacher opened our eyes, with your writing, and showed us that inevitably every one of us will have our own style of writing. Maybe one has some attitude in their tone of writing, one may write with fragments, another that is clearly structured and a thought is not out of place, much less a period. It may not make complete sense to everyone else, but for us, it would, it’s our writing, if someone chooses to read it, great, if not, no loss no harm. That’s just how it is. If one wants to be a writer then they will have to get a thick skin and think in this mentality, and maybe their book will be award winning, fragments, simplicity, complexity and all.
Philosophy is a little, well a lot, more different. We read your story with much more depth, much more insight. This dark empty world, does it resemble ours? Does it show us what is important in life? Is it even supposed to show any of this? Was it merely a story of a son and his father, or rather a father and his son? Will my questions ever be answered? Probably not. But this is all kind of the point. Isn’t it?
